Forks & Corks 2017: "Bronze Award"
Our most fruit forward Pinot Noir, the pinot for this bottling comes most prominently from our five-acre Pommard Clone section of our Block 8 at Bien Nacido. In addition, we also blended into it a bit more from some of our other favorite blocks at Bien Nacido, Riverbench and Solomon Hills Vineyards. This wine was bottled after ten months in second-year French barrels to preserve its bright red, summer fruit flavors and spice components.
-Bill Wathen and Dick Doré have been making wine together since 1985, when they founded Foxen Winery & Vineyard at the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in Northern Santa Barbara County. Since that time their dedication has remained the same: the creation of small production, sustainably-farmed, vineyard-focused wines using a straightforward and minimalist approach to winemaking.
“Spice, underbrush, wild herbs and assorted red fruits all emerge from the charming, medium-bodied, supple, forward 2014 Pinot Noir from the Santa Maria Valley. It's geared for drinking over the coming 3-4 years, but offers incredible quality for not much buck. Note, this is a mix from Bien Nacido, Riverbench and Solomon Hills vineyards, and spent nine months in old French oak.” -Wine Advocate (90)
