JS: 94 - 95 This is really finely textured with beautiful tannins that run the length of the wine and go on and on. It’s full-bodied, yet refined and poised. Pretty finish. Best ever?
Château Fombrauge is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru property. It is the largest Grand Cru Classé property, with a 59-hectare (143-acre) vineyard, and like many others in the region, makes a Merlot-dominant wine.
Fombrauge has existed as a property since the 15th Century, with the first vines documented in 1613. In 1999, it was bought by Bernard Magrez, and now Michel Rolland acts as consultant. The name of the château derives from Fons Brogiera, a spring surrounded by an area of heather.
