Bay Area native and former Silicon Valley executive Barry Waitte founded Tamber Bey Vineyards in 1999, when he purchased a 60-acre vineyard in the Yountville Appellation and an 11-acre property in the renowned Oakville Appellation. He named the Yountville vineyard “Deux Chevaux” (two horses) to pay homage to the winery’s namesake—his first two Arabian horses, Tamborina and Beyamo. This vineyard is planted with all five of Bordeaux’s noble grapes—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec—plus Dijon-clone Chardonnay. Waitte planted three acres of premium Cabernet Sauvignon on the Oakville property, from which is made just one wine: Tamber Bey’s flagship Oakville Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.
