92-93pts James Suckling
This is toned and crunchy with dark and blue fruit, sea shells and crushed stones. Medium- to full-bodied. Tannins are compact and chalky. Velvety finish.
90-92pts Vinous
The 2022 Charmail, which has now absorbed Chateau Bardis and Saint Paul, has a tightly-knit bouquet with blackberry and bilberry fruit, nicely focused if not the most complex Haut-Medoc. The palate is medium-bodied, with hints of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit. The 50% new oak might be too much on the finish. But that should be soaked up with three to four years in bottle.
91pts Jane Anson
Intense, with tar and grilled cedar on the opening. Velvet texture to the tannins, with plenty of dark fruit character, but this veers towards drying on the finish, and is one to watch over ageing.
