94pts Jeb Dunnuck
Another Sonoma Coast release, the 2019 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard displays a fresher, livelier style, offering lots of crushed citrus, lime, honeyed minerality, and floral nuances that carry to a medium-bodied, beautifully textured, seamless Chardonnay with a solid spine of acidity, good mid-palate depth, and a brilliant finish. It’s still tight and lively today, and I suspect it will benefit from 6-12 months of bottle age. It should evolve for a good 7-8 years, if not upwards of a decade.
94pts Wine Enthusiast
With a pillowy texture and backbone of crushed rock, this intriguing white is concentrated in flavor. Lemon, Gravenstein apple, anise and peach are cradled within a core of generous oak, that is spicy and taut throughout a lengthy and structured finish.
93pts Wine Spectator
Crisp and focused, with plenty of lemongrass and savory accents to the green apple and preserved citrus flavors, followed by snap pea notes on the crunchy, well-spiced finish. Drink now through 2025. 450 cases made.
92pts James Suckling
Apricot, peach, spiced apple and brioche on the nose. It’s full-bodied with crisp acidity and concentrated, spiced layers. Bright, flavorful finish. Drink now or hold.
Based in the town of Sonoma, Sojourn Cellars is a highly acclaimed winery specializing in the production of artisan Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. We source fruit from celebrated vineyards in both Sonoma and Napa Counties, and we help direct farming operations to ensure that our grapes are produced using world-class growing techniques. We have consistently produced high-quality wines with a hands-off natural winemaking style that showcases the character and personality of individual vineyards.
The Sojourn Durell Vineyard Chardonnay is made from 100% Old Wente clones from two blocks of the famous Durell Vineyard. The Hill block was planted in the 90s and gives very low yields of small clusters with prominent hen and chick berries. These small bunches provide extraordinary flavors, complexity, and texture. The Barn Block's younger vines were planted in 2009 and they are still only producing small amounts of fruit with concentrated, lively, and exotic characteristics.
