Albariño, a variety indigenous to Portugal (where it is called “Alvarinho”), is widely cultivated (3,600 hectares) in the region of Galicia, Spain, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and under the DO of Rias Baixas (1988).
"Las Perdices began planting albariño vines around 2008, with material imported from Europe, in the Agrelo zone of the Uco Valley. It's not the ideal place for the variety, which comes from the humid Galician lands by the sea, but in this area of mountain desert, this albariño shows ripe, juicy and expansive fruit accompanied by tense acidity with a lot of nerve, a lot of freshness and, at the same time, a density of succulent fruit.
