The balance, polish, and elegance here, paired with plenty of concentration, is superb.

Cabernet drives the 2018 El Desafio de Jonata. Light on its feet for such a big wine, the Desafio dazzles from the very first taste. Pencil shavings, licorice, lavender, spice, menthol and grilled herbs build in a stunning, deeply pitched Ballard Canyon red that hits all the right notes. The 2018 is simply magnificent. Don't miss it.

Lots of blackcurrants and blackberries with iodine and oyster shells. Full-bodied with dusty tannins and a creamy texture. Asphalt as well. Round and juicy. A blend of 75% cabernet sauvignon, 14% cabernet franc, and 11% petit verdot. Drink or hold.

"Absolutely heady perfume. Spiced dark chocolate, cassis, bay leaf, dried sage, fig paste and currant candies. A wine that immediately stands out in the lineup. More density, more aromatics, more power. A wine of tremendous force and direction. Intense and concentrated, serious and focused. Still tightly coiled and freakishly young. Kept lively and fresh with notes of fresh mint and sage. Like a firm, but sweet blackberry. Finish highlighted by cooling, gentle tannins. Definitely in the conversation of hallowed Desafio vintages. History
Jonata is the embodiment of land, soul, and people coming together for a common goal; to produce singular wines from a singular place.
Land – Jonata is a stunning 600 acre property, with 80 acres of estate vineyard on golden rolling hills in Ballard Canyon. High concentrations of Careaga sand run through the estate. A challenging landscape for cultivation and a key element to the qualities of Jonata, pushing our vines to drive deep in search of nutrients.
Soul – Timeless and diverse practices are in place to create health and community at Jonata. Polyface farming practices are implemented to create a diverse and sustainable ecosystem, utilizing a blend of sustainable practices that continue to build the health of Jonata.
People – Since 2004, a consistent team remains at the core. Winemaker Matt Dees & Vineyard manager Ruben Solorzano combine their experiences in winemaking, soil science and farming expertise to help Jonata thrive.
