2022 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or “Clos des 60 Ouvrées – Amphore”
Professional scores: 95 B. Desseauve, 94 Revue des Vins de France. Burghound scores the 2022 92–94, “Outstanding / Sweet Spot,” with a beautifully spicy, floral nose and an elegant, energetic palate.
Tasting profile: An expressive, sophisticated Volnay with ripe plum, black cherry, cassis and blueberry, evolving into clove, violet, wild herbs, leather and subtle sanguine notes. The palate is dense yet velvety, with finely etched tannins, vibrant mineral tension and a lovely saline finish.
This is a particularly special bottling: Clos des 60 Ouvrées is a 2.39-hectare monopole within the Caillerets Premier Cru, with old vines and a reputation for producing one of the domaine's most powerful, age-worthy Volnays. The Amphore élevage emphasizes aromatic purity and texture.
Bottom line: A serious, beautifully structured Burgundy—more muscular and concentrated than many Volnays, but retaining the appellation's elegance. I'd expect it to become increasingly harmonious with several years of cellaring.
Allen Meadows 94 Points
An exotically spicy and broadly floral-suffused nose is comprised mostly by ripe plum and black cherry scents. The super-sleek and highly energetic medium weight flavors brim with both dry extract and an almost aggressive minerality on the precise intense, balanced and lingering finish that, like the Bousse d'Or, would benefit from better depth. Even so, this is very classy juice with the aging potential to match. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding
